Get Motivated!

Recently, a good friend of mine commented on my motivation to age well.  She said, "I admire your ability to eat well, exercise, meditate and live healthy.  I wish I had the motivation that you do."

She was very surprised to learn that I never feel like exercising.  I explained that, like many others, I would prefer to sleep later, read, watch TV or do any number of activities other than exercise.  My motivation comes from knowing how I'll feel if I don't exercise.

Have you ever skipped an exercise session only to be miserable later?  That's what I mean.

My motivation comes from my commitment to a healthy life and my vision of myself as I age.  I see myself in my 80s as a fit and healthy woman.  I also intend to maintain my independence (my agility and ability to take care of myself for as long as possible).  From that clear vision some 30 years ahead comes my motivation to keep my exercise schedule today and to live healthy overall.

What's your vision for your health?  If you don't have one, you can easily create one.  Just ask yourself, "How do I see my health 5 years from now, 10 years, 20 or 30.  Then work backwards.

Do the things today in the direction of that vision.  There's your motivation.
